College Postdoctoral Researcher: Molecular Mechanisms of Insulin Resistance and Beta-cell Failure in Type 2 Diabetes, Poland Scholarships
Scholarships Job Description: The main goal of the project is to elucidate molecular and cellular mechanisms of insulin resistance and of pancreatic beta-cell dysfunction and apoptosis, associated with obesity. The study will be focused on the signaling pathways involved in lipid metabolism regulation, transcription factors, and functional analysis of the insulin pathway. By using viral gene therapy, functional genomics and biochemical approaches the major objective of the proposed project is to uncover the molecular mechanism of lipid-induced muscle and pancreatic beta-cell dysfunctions. The proposed studies will thereby importantly contribute to the molecular understanding of obesity related diabetes and may directly pave the way to the development of new therapeutic targets in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Maximum period of stipend agreement: 4 years
Position starts on : 01.12.2010
Stipend’s amount: 6000-6500 PLN (netto) per month (equivalent of 1500-1600 EUR)
Pension insurance: YES
Profile of candidates:
1. PhD degree (or equivalent) in molecular biology, biochemistry, biology or medical sciences, and no more than four years of post-doctoral training (candidates who would defend their Ph.D. thesis shortly after the application deadline, and before a start of the employment contract, are eligible to apply), 2. outstanding publication record, 3. be highly motivated (demonstrated via joint publications, references of the candidate’s thesis tutor, previous post-doctoral positions different from the PhD awarding institutions), 4. be proficient in English.
