Study Subject(s):Sea Spray Sources at Low Temperatures
College Scholarships Level: Postdoctoral
Scholarship Provider: NordForsk
Scholarships can be taken at: Sweden

Eligibility:-We are seeking a highly motivated person with a completed PhD within the atmospheric or marine sciences, earth sciences, physics, chemistry or engineering.
-A strong background experimental work is required, as well as a willingness to work interdisciplinary in between atmospheric science and marine chemistry/biology.

Scholarships Description: The largest natural aerosol source is so called sea spray, which consists of sea salt, bacteria and organic compounds from the Ocean. We know that the sea salt emissions depends on wind speed and sea surface temperature. However, we have large gaps regarding the emissions of organic sea spray and marine bacteria. In a recent study Struthers et al. (2011, ACP) show that the sea salt sea spray alone is responsible for a direct forcing of -0.2 to -0.4 Wm-2 over the Arctic Ocean in response to warming and sea ice retreat. Including the effect on clouds, the effect is about 10 times larger.
