Scholarships Description: Peninsula Medical School, within the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, is widely regarded as the strongest of the new medical schools in the UK. It has established an excellent reputation for high quality educational programmes and has a high quality and expanding research portfolio. From the outset the School has sought to build an international research reputation, to complement its innovative educational programme, through tight focus on areas of strength and exploitation of its pan-peninsula status.
This post will support a grant funded research project on age-related diseases, with a special focus on the effects of common genetic variation. Conditions of interest include cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and Alzheimer’s disease. There will be opportunities to develop your own research interests within the project.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist to an Associate Research Fellow position. You will have a degree in epidemiology, statistics, bioinformatics or equivalent and have a knowledge and experience of undertaking statistical analyses of human study genetic and other data.
A PhD in a relevant subject or evidence of PhD level research outputs would be desirable as would skills in statistical analysis, including use of relevant software
This is a University of Exeter appointment and will be based in Exeter.

Salary will be on the Associate Research Fellow scale of £24,273 – £27,319, with access to further contribution points rising to £30,747
Point on scale will be determined by knowledge, skills and experience, and will be clarified following interview. The Scholarships post will be fixed term until 30th April 2012.
