Scholarships Description: This PhD scholarship for commencement in 2011 is being offered by the Brain & Ageing Research Program, University of New South Wales – a high profile research program funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), which is undertaking research on the determinants of cognitive disorders in older adults.
This scholarships provides an opportunity for a PhD student to undertake research into exceptional old age working on the Sydney Centenarian Study. Centenarians are individuals who have lived to an exceptional age of 100 years and over. Studying centenarians allows us to examine the factors associated with exceptional longevity and successful ageing. The Sydney Centenarian Study collects data on a wide range of measures including cognitive performance and neuroimaging data, and has collected DNA samples for genetic testing.
Criteria: An honours degree in Science, Psychology, Health Sciences or equivalent, or a degree in Medicine; demonstrated aptitude for research and an excellent academic record. Applicants should also satisfy UNSW admission requirements for a PhD and must enrol through the UNSW’s School of Psychiatry.
