PhD Scholarships Development of Novel Fluorescent Labels Macquarie University, Australia
Study Subject:Organic chemistry
Employer: Macquarie University
Scholarships Level: PhD
Scholarships Description: The synthesis of novel fluorescent labels that emit in the green or red spectrum, that are small, can be incorporate site specifically via a linker of variable length, and provide a high quantum yield would find a myriad of applications in biology and biotechnology. This ARC funded Linkage project in collaboration with UNSW, the Garvan Institute and St Vincent’s Hospital is aimed at the synthesis of new fluorophores to tag the novel antibody fragments for use in scanning endomicroscopy. The successful applicant will synthesise a range of fluorophores and conjugate these for antibody fragments. The applicant will also be responsible for the spectroscopic characterisation of the fluorophores and conjugates.
Applicants should have 1st class Honours (or equivalent) or a research Masters in synthetic organic chemistry. Experience with fluorescence spectroscopy or biochemistry would be an advantage. Stipend will be A$27,222 tax exempt and annually indexed (APAI) for 3.5 years.
